Roo promote KI to Londoners

Thursday June 25 9:42 AM

Kangaroos have invaded London as part of a tourism campaign to promote Kangaroo Island.

Life-size kangaroo statues have been placed in landmark locations across the city.

Tourists and locals can then hunt them out as part of a competition where winners receive a trip to Kangaroo Island.

The Tourism Minister, Jane Lomax-Smith, says the campaign is a great way to lift the profile of both Kangaroo Island and the South Australia.

"Kangaroo Island of course has an iconic name, it links with the idea of kangaroos and many Europeans regard Kangaroo Island as our Galapagos," she said.

"It's one the most popular international destinations in Australia."

Andrew McEvoy from the Tourism Commission says the campaign is already working well.

"It's sort of like Australia's fourth icon, up here they know the rock, the reef, the Opera House and they also know the roo, they know Kangaroo Island," he said.
