Sprinkler mishap delays Sydney flights

Friday July 17 11:00 AM

The baggage handling area at Sydney Airport was flooded this morning after a worker accidentally triggered the sprinkler system.

Electricity at the airport had to be shut off, and international flights were delayed by up to 90 minutes.

The Sydney Airport Corporation says a contracted baggage handler was driving a vehicle with a pole sticking out that hit a ceiling sprinkler-head.

Flights have now returned to normal.
