Fancy a sixty day cargo voyage?
By: Katrina Archer and Bruce Piper, Cruise Weekly
There's only one guest cabin on board, but a new passenger cargo service allows travellers to cruise between NZ and Singapore for a very affordable fare.
The owner's cabin aboard cargo vessel M.V. Tasman Campaigner is available for booking through Freighter Cruises, with a 21- day voyage from Singapore to
Tauranga in NZ, priced at just $4570 per person.
Along the way you'll visit Noumea, Lautoka, Suva, Auckland, New Plymouth, Wellington and Timaru, while the 30 day reverse voyage takes in Hong Kong, Ho Chi Minh City, Jakarta, and Sri Racha - and the amazing voyages can be combined for a 60-day itinerary costing $11070.
Freighter Cruises says the suite has two rooms and is located just below the container ship's bridge on level 7, with a separate lounge and bedroom.
Cruising this way will certainly be a unique experience, with the Campaigner the only cargo vessel operating on this route.
Passengers share a lounge and dining room with the ship's officers, and deck chairs are provided for use by passengers.
There's a TV and video player located in the officer's lounge on the first deck also.
The air conditioned cabin is attended by a steward, and towels and bed linen are provided.
Passengers need to be able to negotiate stairs because the accommodation and public facilities are spread over several decks, and there is no elevator on board.
This new voyage is just one of a number of itineraries on offer from Freighter Cruises, which also has trips between China and Italy or Germany, as well as a six week voyage from Singapore via the Panama Canal to England.
