Champagne Bay voted favourite port
By: Louise Goldsbury and Bruce Piper, Cruise Weekly
This beautiful beach at Vanuatu's Champagne Bay has topped a survey to find the best port of call in the South Pacific.
P&O Cruises' passengers voted for the beachside port, located on the north-east coastline of Espirito Santo, the largest of Vanuatu's islands.
Offering white sands, palm trees and excellent snorkelling, Champagne Bay narrowly beat Fiji's pristine Yasawa Island.
In third place was the 2007 winner, Vanuatu's Mystery Island, while New Caledonia's Isle of Pines came fourth and another Vanuatu island port, Wala, placed fifth.
Jenny Lourey, senior vice president, Carnival Australia, said travellers could choose from more than 25 ports throughout the South Pacific visited by P&O ships next year.
"But Australians keen to visit our most popular ports to form their own opinions should book their 2010 South Pacific holidays now so they don't miss out," she said.
Pacific Jewel will visit Champagne Bay four times during 2010 while Brisbane's Pacific Dawn will visit the port twice.
Fares start from $1909 per person twin-share - see your local travel agent for details.
