Celebrity Equinox - A day in the life of 'docking out'
By: Louise Goldsbury for Cruise Weekly
The new Celebrity Equinox was unveiled this month in all her shimmering white glory at the offical 'docking out' in Germany.
With a comfortable capacity of 1425 passengers, the 122,000-tonne Solstice class ship from Celebrity Cruises was a sight to behold as she saw sunlight for the first time on 06 June.
The water in the foreground is known as the 'dry dock' - now filled with water - in which the US$750 million (AUD$900 million) ship was built over the past 22 months.
Later this week Celebrity Equinox will sail from Papenburg down the River Ems for various provisioning activities, sea trials and inspections, followed by a host of invitation-only special events in England.
From 31 July, Celebrity Equinox begins sailing European itineraries out of Southampton and Rome, and in November will move to Florida for her inaugural season of Caribbean cruises.
Quirky features include glass-blowing demonstrations and the rooftop Lawn Club with real, growing grass for guests to enjoy golf putting, croquet and picnics!

Classic International Cruises has launched new Wedding and Renewal of Vows packages aboard its Athena ship in Australia next summer.
A renewal of vows package starts from $125, and wedding deals start at $250 including use of the onboard chapel, beauty/hair treatments for the bride and groom, pre-wedding drinks, music, champagne and canapes, portrait and group picture, private area in the restaurant for dinner with wines, wedding cake, and fresh fruit for the honeymooners in their cabin.
Fun facts about Royal Caribbean International's 2435-passenger liner.
It is 279 metres in length, meaning that if the ship was stood on its end in Paris, it would be just 21 metres shorter than the Eiffel Tower.
