It's time to tango

There are many dances that are instantly associated with countries, but the tango is by far the sexiest national dance in the world. In Argentina, they see it not only as a dance, but as part of their culture and it's become one of the most recognisable icons of the country.

The tango is literally everywhere in Buenos Aires - you can see it on the streets around San Telmo, at the flashy and professional Broadway-style shows, or at one of the city's many "milongas" (tango clubs) where the locals like to practise their hot steps.

The best tango show in Buenos Aires is undeniably Senor Tango. Here the talented tango dancers perform shows every night. With incredible dancers and fantastic musicians, Senor Tango is a great night out and truly entertaining. To retrace the history of the dance it's important to learn about Carlos Gardel, the man who made the tango famous around the world. His house, in the Abasto neighbourhood, is now a museum and showcases the story of the dance and the man who sung its famous songs.

Cafe Tortoni is Argentina's oldest coffeehouse and it has been a well known hang-out for artists, musicians and writers for more than 100 years. Carlos Gardel was a regular at the Tortoni, and today is a great place to stop for a coffee and or a performance.
