All you need is a sleeping bag and your car, but you could hire a campervan from the Complete Campsite and experience a three-day all-inclusive trip where everything is supplied.
This holiday is good for novice campers who want to enjoy the great outdoors or for city folk wanting to try out their four-wheel drives off the road.
The Complete Campsite is set on a private property, nestled beside the Cobar River only fuve kilometres from Barrington Tops.
With your newly-hired campervan, you will head up the highway and into Barrington Tops. A tour supervisor is on hand at all times - so even the most inexperienced campers can rest easy.
During the drive through Barrington Tops, you pass through more than four different types of rainforest, varied eucalypt communities, natural swamps and by waterfalls that are home to a multitude of plant and animal species, many considered to be threatened.
The northern area of the Tops, accessible on The Scone Road out of Gloucester, provides access to the plateau and even has several 4WD tracks in addition to the main road.
After a day's driving you reach the top of Barrington, where you can wind down and relax. Here you can watch the sunset and take in the view while sipping champagne. The evening is spent by the camp-fire, sitting under the stars, enjoying the company of new friends. A country-style baked dinner is served and the night also includes some bush poetry.
If you want a lazy holiday you can just sit back and read a book.
For the more active, there are free activities such as a gold mine tour, river rafting and fishing included in the cost.
You can go on a two-hour horse ride for $35 per person. For parents who want to spend some time on their own, there's also a Kids' Club available at the base camp.
In addition, The Complete Campsite has a 4WD accreditation course which is available for people who have a 4WD and would like to learn how to drive it off road. The course will cost an extra $135 per person.
The facts
A three-day tour for a family of four with The Complete Campsite costs $495 and includes a fully equipped camper trailer, guide, champagne at sunset and some meals.
