Broken Hill Art, NEW SOUTH WALES
Airing Date: Feb 20th, 2006
With some of the most burnt, rugged and unmistakable landscape in the world its no wonder artists flock to Broken Hill to put paintbrush to canvas.
Broken Hill is an oasis in the wilderness. It's a fascinating town, not only for its comfortable existence in an extremely unwelcoming environment, but also for the fact that it was once a one-company town that spawned one equally strong union. Some of the state's best national parks are in the area, plus some interesting near ghost towns. The city is located on the Barrier Range in the far west of NSW, just 48 km east of the South Australian border. 1160 km west of Sydney via the Great Western, Mitchell and Barrier Highways.
The Pro Hart Gallery features a collection of Australian and European works and one of the largest pipe organs in Australia. At 108 Wyman St it is open 9-5 weekdays and Sunday afternoons, tel: (08) 8087 2441.
Mainly working in oils and acrylics, Pro will use any tool or method to achieve the desired outcome for his work.
For Roxanne Minchin, art and music have always been an integral part of her life. As a young child her earliest memories are of sitting on steps in the backyard sketching the rainforest and native birds around her home at Wamberal on the NSW central coast. She was wining colouring competitions at the age of four and, even as early as then, she had an unusual approach to colour and design.
Tri State Safari's offer a 2 hour sunset tour on the Broken Hill Art story. The tour starts with a short 4wd trek to the top of a nearby hill for 360 degree views over Broken Hill and surrounding countryside. Then they head out to the Sculpture Symposium, where visitors enjoy the sunset with a glass of wine, cheese and nibbles.
