Olivia Newton John took ownership in the late spring of 2004. In just nine months the retreat was completed including the Amala day spa, 20 bedrooms and suites, a private restaurant, tennis court, salt water swimming pool and an outdoor heated spa pool. Olivia's idea was to keep the retreat intimate and personal.
The Layana rooms are nestled in sub-tropical gardens where you can sit in seclusion on your deck. The Sura Terraces, also overlooking the gardens, are more spacious and the Acala Suites are self-contained apartments with their own outdoor spa pools. The accommodation is decorated in earth tones.
In keeping with Gaia's approach, the chef will choose the freshest local, organic produce available. Hand picked herbs and spices are harvested from Gaia's own organic garden to use in each meal. The menu is innovative with great emphasis on a balanced diet while allowing you to enjoy a wide variety of dishes. Vegans and those with special dietary needs are fully catered for. A selection of fine Australian wine is available to accompany your dinner upon request.
The Amala Day Spa is central to the Gaia experience. Here you can escape the stresses of daily life. Gaia's highly experienced therapists are there to treat you with treatments including hot rocks massage, relaxation, deep tissue and Shiatsu massages, Hawaiian body work & reflexology. You can totally surrender to body wraps, polishes, luxurious facials and beauty care.
Gaia offers a diverse range of activities from strolls to tennis or more vigorous exercise programmes tailored to your needs. Remember you choose. Centre yourself with Tai Chi as you breathe in the tranquillity. Swim in the outdoor pool, detoxify in the sauna or relax in the spa surrounded by fragrant gardens. Olivia has initiated that each guest plant a tree so they can make a positive contribution to nature. You can tie a tag with your name on it to the tree and can come back in years to come to see how much your tree has grown!
