The legendary recording studio is located near Byron Bay and was made famous by people like Olivia Newton John, Mi Sex, Moving Pictures, and even Rod Stewart.
The Music Farm was originally a dairy farm that was transformed into a studio by a young Melbourne artist. By the mid 70s it was established as one of the most respected recording studios in Australia, concentrating solely on musical recordings. Some of the more notable artists who visited the Music Farm include Midnight Oil, Cold Chisel, The Swingers, Australian Crawl, Grace Knight, Kate Ceberano, Tim Finn, Mondo Rock and Christine Sullivan - and that's just to name a few.
The cottages - Music Farm, Serenity House, Serenity Cottages, and Serenity Cube - offer total serenity. They are completely self contained and self catering, although food can be provided at an extra charge by prior arrangement. The accommodation is more like holiday homes rather than cottages, which may explain why so many artists opted to make their music here.
There's some interesting history behind the cottages themselves. At one point the property and surrounding rainforest faced devastation as the result of dam proposal. However, with the support of scientists, consultants, engineers, environmentalists, politicians, film and music stars they managed to stop the plans. Ironically, it was at Music Farm that Diana Young wrote the mythical trilogy about magic and fairies in the rainforest.
