Rae's on Watego's, NEW SOUTH WALES
Airing Date: Mar 21st, 2005
This spectacular stretch of coast is known by local Aboriginal groups as Walgun, meaning the shoulder. In 1770 Captain James Cook named the landmark Cape Byron after his vice-admiral, grandfather of the poet Lord Byron.
Rae's on Watego's Beach in Byron Bay has been heralded as one of Australia's most exquisite and unique accommodation experiences. Rae's is a small boutique retreat with all the facilities of a private hotel and a stunning location on Australia's most easterly point. It is surrounded by the natural beauty of the spectacular stretch of coastline and is only a 20 minute walk from the famous Byron Bay lighthouse.
The natural beauty of the Cape Byron Headland Nature Reserve surrounds Rae's offering 4 kilometres of walking tracks passing by ancient aboriginal sites, coastal rainforests and stunning beaches.
Rae's has 7 accommodation options. Each room has strong Mediterranean and Moroccan influences with gothic turrets and art deco touches. They are all individually styled with Italian marble and hand crafted furnishings. The suites offer a mixture of courtyards or garden terraces whilst the penthouses have large adjoining balconies with ocean and headland views.
Guests at Rae's are treated to fabulous cooking too. Chef Sean Jarrett cooks up fresh seafood from the flash such as Queensland sea scallops to simple fish and chips. Rae's also has a restaurant and you don't have to be a guest to enjoy the food.
All rooms are equipped with TV and CD stereo systems, orchids & robes. Some rooms also feature a fireplace and satellite TV. Other in-house facilities include an outdoor swimming pool and courtyard area set amidst a canopy of mature tropical gardens, a steam room and complimentary morning newspapers. Surf and boogie boards, beach equipment & towels are also available as well as a professional massage service.
Although guests may wish to stay in the luxury of their suite or penthouse, there are a number of attractions available in the surrounding area. There are more than 5 local golf courses, dolphin and whale watching tours, deep sea fishing or horse rides through the natural rainforest. And no trip would be complete without a walk up to the lighthouse for an early morning start to watch the sunrise!
