Dapto is an hour and a half drive south of Sydney, on the New South Wales coast.
Since its beginning in 1935, The Dapto Dogs greyhound races have become an institution. They are held at the Dapto Showground every Thursday night.
Local greyhound racing fans are quite happy to tell you that if they were to go anywhere in the world and tell someone they were from Dapto, they would instantly be recognised as coming from one of the greatest greyhound racing locations on the planet!
At precisely 6.15pm every Thursday night the dogs are kennelled by their owners, where they stay until race time. Just before 7.30pm the dogs are taken into the gates and at 7.30pm the first race begins. There are 10 races every Thursday night to bet on.
