Exploring the Watagans National Park is a great alternative to the freeway drive to the Hunter Valley.
The
Watagans is the name given to the forested mountain range separating the Hunter River catchment and the Tuggerah Lakes system.
The Watagans has a large number of recreation sites, with easy access from Sydney, the central coast, Newcastle and the Hunter Valley.
The area is popular with day-trippers, campers, mountain bike riders, four-wheel-drivers, photographers and others who enjoy time out in the great outdoors.
The Boarding House Dam Walk is a loop track from Boarding House Dam picnic area along the creek through rainforest featuring water gums, lilly pillies and coachwoods. The walk continues past a striking moss covered rock wall before returning through forests of grey myrtle, blue gum and turpentine.

The Hunter Valley Gardens can be found in Pokolbin, in the foothills of the Brokenback Ranges, at the heart of the Hunter vineyards.
