Jamberoo, NEW SOUTH WALES
Airing Date: Jun 4th, 2002
When the folks want peace and quiet and the kids want adventure, Jamberoo, just a two-hour drive south of Sydney, is a place that offers both.
A visit to Jamberoo Recreation Park will have the young ones and some not so young ones in absolute fun-filled heaven and once you've paid your entry fee, all rides are free and you can go on them as many times as you like.
It is an economic way to keep the speed demons going for a whole day. Racing cars, powerboats, slides and a five-metre free fall will definitely get the adrenalin pumping. All rides are supervised so parents can be relatively calm about putting the kids on the rides.
After all the action of life in the fast lane the Minnamurra Rainforest could be called a trip in the slow lane. There are four kilometres of walkways to ease the heart rate back to normal and from $10 per car you can check out waterfalls and creepy crawlies right in the middle of the rainforest - there is plenty of wheelchair access too.
With so much jammed into the day, the clan will welcome a stay over in some comfortable accommodation.
A good family option is the Jamberoo Valley Lodge, a four-star motel-style resort, tucked into 10 acres of land bordering the Minnamurra Rainforest area. Facilities here include a pool, free games and an affordable family restaurant.
The facts
Rooms at Jamberoo Valley Lodge cost from $145 per night for a family of four. Mention the Great Outdoors when booking and breakfast will be included at no extra cost. Meals at the restaurant cost around $20 each and kid's meals are from $8.
