Jervis Bay, NEW SOUTH WALES
Airing Date: Dec 22nd, 2003
Located around two and a half hours south of Sydney, Paperbark Camp is a place where you can camp in the great outdoors without sacrificing luxury. There are 10 private and permanent tents situated in the Aussie bush just minutes from Jervis Bay.
It took 10 years for owners Irena and Jeremy Hutchings to fulfil their vision of opening Australia's first luxury tented camp. And there's little impact to the landscape. The permanent structures look as natural as the bush that surrounds them. Each tent has private ensuite facilities, comfortable queen or twin beds, a pure wool doona, insect screens and solar powered lighting.
Paperbark Camp is located on 88 acres and there are many bushwalking tracks to either walk or ride on. Bikes are supplied. There's also Currambene Creek, where complimentary canoes are also provided.
Jervis Bay is one of the true gems of NSW. Not far from the property is Jervis Bay National Park, now called Booderee National Park. The park is home to the whitest sand in the world and some of the clearest, bluest water around. Here you can walk through the forest, relax on the sandy shores or, from around September to November, join a whale watching cruise.
Getting back to nature doesn't mean living on two-minute noodles either. Gunyah Restaurant is situated at the heart of the camp and offers a delicious selection of fine cuisine, like steamed eggplant, duck and tiramisu. At Paperback Camp, fine dining meets luxury camping in a secluded all-Australian bush setting.
