Woollamia Village, NEW SOUTH WALES
Airing Date: Feb 16th, 2004
You'd be excused for thinking you've stepped into the past when you arrive at Woollamia Village Retreat near Jervis Bay.
Surrounded by bushland and located just two hours from Sydney, the buildings in the village are replicas of 19th century buildings. Everything you'd expect to see in an old country town you'll find in Woollamia Village - and the best part is, these buildings are designed entirely for tourist accommodation.
Probably unique in Australia, the village accommodation concept was the brainchild of builder Brian Brown. Brian designed some of the buildings as well as contributing collectibles for the interior. Other items were rescued from construction sites, recycled or donated by friends and local historians.
Woollamia Village features six cottages, including a police station, general store, school house and bank. Each one is unique and features interesting collectibles and components appropriate to its particular theme; the church has a real pulpit and pews, while the school house features a chalkboard and desk.
The old world character of the cottages is combined with a modern touch. Inside you'll find comfy lounges, queen size beds, fully equipped kitchens and complimentary breakfast provisions. The larger units include a heated spa and air-conditioning. Each cottage has a veranda where you can enjoy a barbecue or just relax and watch the interesting birdlife.
