Paddle and Saddle, Snowy Mtns, NSW
Airing Date: Feb 17th, 2007
With an abundance of streams and creeks, with breathtaking views of the valleys below that flatten out into rolling plains, with wild horses spiriting through the bush it's no wonder this place is etched in our national psyche as a place that typifies the terms wild, rugged, and romantic
Cochran Horse Treks have now added another dimension to their high country tours - water, and lots of it!
The new tour starts with the 'saddle' - a full day horse ride from Lake Eucumbene to the historic town of Kiandra. Here you'll visit the gold diggings and the cemetery . Before riding on to a small waterfall and then to open plains for more horse riding. If you're lucky you may see a brumby.
Then it's off to 3 Mile Dam for camping - drover style. Hear with some bush yarns and boil a billy under the stars. Oh and there's great camp roast for dinner.
Early next morning, comes the 'paddle' side of thingsand you'll have wanted to eat your huge cooked breakfast because you'll need the energy. It's a 22 km paddle on Tumut River ending up on the Talbingo Dam reservoir - but the scenery is worth it, and you do get to stop along the way!
You end up at near Talbingo township where you celebrate with cheese, bickies and a good stiff drink, and pay homage to your bum cheeks and biceps for holding up on the journey!
