The NSW Southern Highlands offers rolling hills, fresh air and the perfect place to escape for a weekend away. The Pines Pastoral is a 700 acre Angus cattle farm just over an hour's drive south of Sydney and two hours from Canberra.
700 metres above sea level in the picturesque hills of the Southern Highlands, The Pines is just a few kilometres from cafes, restaurants and the antique shops of Moss Vale, Bowral and Berrima.
The Pines Pastoral property has five original and historic buildings that have been converted into unique four to five star cottage accommodation. The owners of the property have gone to lengths to ensure the cottages have the true Australian feel, with all natural timbers and Australian touches throughout. These days the old dairy is a cottage called Sugar Glider, the old corner shop is now the Platypus Cottage, and the old homestead is now Possums Cottage.
Sugar Glider is perched on top of a small ridge accessed only by your own private road. It is surrounded by acres of peaceful hills and valleys, and your closest neighbours are the cattle grazing nearby.
The Platypus Cottage offers views of the Southern Highlands in all directions and features exposed beams and a luxurious Scandinavian sauna. Alternatively, the Possum Cottage offers accommodation for one or two couples in a typical Australian country house.
All the rooms open onto a classic broad verandah of jarrah decking. The original 19th century cottage was situated a kilometre and a half away, but was dismantled and carried on horseback to its present location.
The cottage has since been extended, and features a large country dining table specially handcrafted from bark milled on the property. A more modern addition is the sauna provided for your relaxation.
The Pines Pastoral has an airstrip on the property, so for a unique day time activity you can take a scenic flight around the area. And, for those long nights, each cottage also has a cosy wood fire.
