Sydney Airport's new carry-on baggage rules increase passenger safety

To increase safety, there are now new rules for taking liquids, aerosols and gels on flights into and out of Australia. These new rules are in place to protect people from the threat of liquid explosives and came into effect on 31 March 2007.

Each container of liquids, aerosols or gels in your carry-on baggage must be 100 millilitres or less. All the containers must be sealed in a transparent, one-litre plastic bag. You are only allowed one plastic bag. Any resealable bag of one litre capacity or less is allowed.

You may still carry on board prescription medicines. Baby products and non-prescription medicines that you need for the flight are also allowed. Proof of need may be required.

Purchases of Duty Free after security screening at the airport are unaffected. You can choose your duty free in any airport duty free store and take it on your international flight. (Please see Duty Free staff if you are taking a connecting flight). You can order your duty free in advance and have it 'Ready for Collection' at the airport when you return from Australia. And of course you can buy duty free items on arrival back into Australia.
