Longitude 131, NORTHERN TERRITORY
Airing Date: Sep 6th, 2004
Longitude 131 is part of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World group. It's the closest accommodation to Uluru in the Red Centre, and has recently re-opened after a fire destroyed 13 of its luxury tents.
The accommodation is as luxurious as it is eco-sensitive, and with a backdrop of Uluru, it has the best location in all of Australia. Situated in the heart of Uluru-Tjuta National Park, the views from your tent are stunning.
The accommodation, although described as 'tents', is total luxury. The 15 tents can sleep a maximum of 30 people. Each tent is raised on stilts, surrounded by four solid walls with a canvas awning stretched over the roof. The interior design features stone floors covered in natural fibre rugs, beautiful linen on the beds, and an unique bathroom where even the toilet has a great view!
The Dune's House is the place to get all your meals and meet up with the other guests. Other features at Longitude 131 include a swimming pool, spa, and of course Uluru.
The minimum two night stay includes two morning and two afternoon fully guided tours. Longitude is only 10 kilometres from the big red rock, and a couple of hours before sunset you can join the sunset walk, complete with champagne and nibbles.
If you don't fancy a group tour, you can hire your own personal tour guide, which means you can take time in seeing what you want to see. To catch the sunrise your tour guide will take you into the Uluru-Kata Tjata National Park and stop at the sunrise viewing platform for the perfect photo opportunity.
As you drive around Uluru your guide will explain the World Heritage values as well as geology and tourism of the region. While you're in the Red Centre take a trip to Kata Tjuta, The Olgas. In the local Anangu language, Kata Tjuta means 'many heads'.
