Ooraminna, NORTHERN TERRITORY
Airing Date: Jan 1st, 2002

The bush camp is in the heart of the Ooraminna Ranges, which boast magnificent red sand hills, weathered rocky outcrops, and a profusion of plants and wildlife. The camp itself covers more that a quarter of a million hectares. The vast area is home to some of the Territory's most diverse scenery and was originally one of the region's first cattle stations. It was only recently opened up to the public but has become popular with 'urban cowboys' desperate to try their hand at a group muster or a ride on one of the fantastic horse trails. The camp also caters for children and offers a nature walk where city kids can learn all about the bush. If you want to spend a bit more time there, the bush camp offers escorted horse rides, overnight camel safaris, bush walking as well as a four-wheel-drive cattle-station tour. The bush camp offers an assortment of accommodation options. The Pioneer Suite is a specially prepared area where you can lay your swag and sleep under the stars. Alternatively, the Bush Hut is a handcrafted timber and corrugated iron shack equipped with an open fireplace. Meals are cooked over the open fire and the hut is available for families or groups.Another highlight of the Ooraminna Bush Camp is the Evening Bushman's Dinner. Guests are picked up from Alice Springs and driven south through the spectacular central Australian desert to the Ooraminna homestead. Once there, you can learn how to cook damper before sitting down to a bushman's BBQ feast in Ooraminna's very own pub.
