Lodge of Dundee, NORTHERN TERRITORY
Airing Date: Aug 23rd, 2004
Dundee Beach, on the Northern Territory's west coast, is about two hours south west of Darwin. It runs several kilometres along the coast and is a popular destination with Darwin residents who have holiday homes there.
From Dundee Beach you can access some of the best blue water fishing in the top end, and it's the closest jump off point for catching large saltwater barramundi. The Lodge of Dundee, which is the only place for visitors to stay in this remote area, offers a type of fisherman's lodge / backpackers accommodation.
While staying at Dundee Beach you can organise a fishing trip with Barry, the local skipper. He works with Ezy Duz Fishing Charters, and is a great guide for visitors exploring the fishing waters.
The coastal waters of the Northern Territory are rich with fish and marine life. For keen fishermen, the waters have an abundance of the famous barramundi as well as other saltwater species such as blue salmon, golden snapper, coral trout and long tailed tuna. Around the area there are some recommended fishing spots which include Fog Bay, Jenny Point, Bowra Shoal, Perron Islands and Bynoe Harbour.
The Lodge of Dundee is a fully licensed venue with a bar area and take away facility. Meals are available from 7am until late and include take away as well as main courses. A varied selection of wines and other beverages are also available. Guests can book chartered boats from the Lodge for day trips or the Lodge can organise a special trip with meals included. Following Lodge tradition, whatever you catch you can clean and cook up on the BBQ.
