Bloomfield Lodge, QUEENSLAND

The two hour journey from Cairns to Peppers Bloomfield Lodge is an adventure in itself. Your journey begins at Cairns airport, where a plane will take you on a scenic flight along the spectacular Queensland coastline. For half an hour you'll see amazing views of the tropical rainforest running into the sparkling Coral Sea.

Touching down on an outback airstrip, you'll be met by Peppers staff and taken on a 4WD journey along a dirt road to the banks of the Bloomfield River. From here, the launch cruises downriver and across Weary Bay to Peppers Bloomfield Lodge, which is almost unseen beneath the sprawling rainforest. After your adventurous journey, a cooling drink waits for you upon arrival.

With the lodge's 16 rooms all spread out in the dense jungle you could be easily convinced you've got the whole place to yourself. Spend time unwinding by the pool, soaking in the spa or enjoying an aromatherapy massage.

There are many activities available to guests, including excursions to the reef, fishing on the lodge's jetty, and a complimentary two hour cruise along the delightful Bloomfield River. During the cruise you'll see salt water crocodiles in their natural habitat and learning about the river's fascinating history. Another popular activity is the guided Daintree Rainforest walk. The walk takes about two and a half hours and is led by an experienced guide, who will introduce you to the innumerable species of indigenous flora and fauna.

At the end of the day it's time for things to pick up. Meal times are very sociable, with many friendships formed over a gourmet seafood dinner and a few glasses of wine. As the Daintree sun starts sinking, the cocktails start flowing.
