Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, QUEENSLAND
Airing Date: Jan 19th, 2004
Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary's Wildnight Tour offers guests the unique opportunity to take a look behind the scenes at some of the Sanctuary's cute and not so cute nocturnal wildlife to see how, for some animals, the day begins as the sun goes down.
The Sanctuary's 27 hectares of landscaped grounds and bushland is home to the largest collection of Australian native animals, made up of over 1400 mammals, birds and reptiles.
During the Wildnight Tour guests have the opportunity to hand feed kangaroos and wallabies at Kangaroo Paddock, spotlight freshwater and saltwater crocodiles at the crocodile enclosures, enjoy the antics of cute Australian marsupials such as the Golden Brushtail Possum, as well as see the wise Barn Owl and watch the Sugar Gliders at play.
There's one Australian marsupial visitors are particularly keen to see - the Koala. Fortunately these cuddly critters are on the list of encounters during the Wildnight Tour and guests are given the chance to see them during their more active night time ventures. Guests can also pat and hold the Koala.
However, it's not only the cute and cuddly that prefer to head out after hours. The Wildnight Tour gives guests the opportunity to see and touch reptiles, insects and arachnids, including iridescent scorpions and giant Bush Cockroaches!
