More than 500 people had to evacuate Dunk Island when Cyclone Larry hit in March this year. The natural disaster left the island resort in a state of disarray with many guest rooms waist-deep in water, trees were down and the roofing was completely gone! Now, after spending around $20 million in getting back on its feet, the resort is ready to re-open its doors, it's back in business and welcoming guests:

  • * Voyages Dunk Island comprises 160 guest rooms across four distinct types: 40 Bayview Suites, 50 Beachfront Rooms, 32 Garden Cabanas and 38 Banfield Rooms.
  • * There's a range of restaurants and bars to enjoy delicious cuisine and breathtaking views: the Beachcomber Restaurant, Plantation Bar & Deck, Cascade Pool Bar, The Terrace (seasonal restaurant) and upmarket Jetty Caf.
  • * There's a variety of experiences on offer for guests. From complimentary activities such as tennis, squash, snorkelling, sailing and nature walks; to deep sea fishing charters, scuba diving on the Great Barrier Reef, golf and romantic sunset cruises which are an additional cost.
  • * The Dunk Island Rangers kids club is ideal for families seeking a truly natural playground (and spare time for mum and dad). Catering for children between 3-12 years, the kids enjoy treasure hunts, arts and crafts, rainforest discovery walks and a visit to the hobby farm. In the evening, they're entertained with disco parties, stargazing, movies and night walks.
  • * The Spa of Peace & Plenty is one of Australia's best destination spas, featuring Sodashi and Elemis products in the hands of expert therapists. For more information or to download a Spa Menu, www.dunk-island.com/spa-of-peace-and-plenty.
  • * Peak season: School holidays, August - November (recommended booking period in advance: four to six weeks).
