Sea World, Gold Coast, QUEENSLAND
Airing Date: Aug 25th, 2006
Shark Bay at Sea World on the Gold Coast is the world's largest man-made lagoon system for sharks. The two-level exhibit provides spectacular viewing both above and below water through three 10 x 3 metre windows, allowing you to come face to face with sharks, stingrays and a range of exotic tropical fish.
Shark Bay includes three main zones for viewing and interaction. There's a rock pool area with an Inter-tidal pool, there's a Reef Lagoon, where you can swim with smaller sharks such as Leopard Sharks and Nervous Sharks along with colourful reef fish and a larger lagoon that houses the bigger sharks.
The Rock Pool Adventure in Shark Bay gives children up to the age of nine years a chance to meet the inhabitants of the Inter-tidal Pool. Children will come face to face with clown fish, anemones, rays and sea stars. Another exciting activity is joining a Shark Bay diver for an exciting snorkel adventure, in the Reef Lagoon. Here you will swim with white-tip and black-tip reef sharks, colourful tropical fish and stingrays, which grace the bottom of the lagoon. While underwater you can check out signs which provide an educational trail on the Reef lagoons inhabitants.
From this lagoon you can also take a look through to the Shark Lagoon to see the incredible Tiger Sharks. Participants must be 10 years of age. If you dare, you can even get a bit closer to Shark Bays' larger sharks in Shark Encounter. In this experience, you will join a qualified diver inside an acrylic cage to feed some of the world's most feared predators, including the Tiger Shark. Participants need to be certified divers if they would like to dive with the sharks or can simply snorkel in the cage
