Mary River Advernture: Gympie, QUEENSLAND
Airing Date: Jan 1st, 2002
This particular tour starts on the Mary River, which is just outside Gympie in southwest Queensland. This isn't a holiday for the lazy - the hard yakka starts nice and early and you will be required to paddle for 18 kilometres through farmland and untouched eucalypt forest.
Rest assured, there are plenty of stops along the way where you can give your arms a well-deserved break. You can even drop a line using the freshwater mussels from the riverbank as bait.
Make sure you are well rested because stage two of the adventure involves a 45 minute hike to the camp, situated at the base of Point Pure.
Everything here is already set up and ready to go and all your meals are prepared for you, which will certainly help you to rest up for the following day.
On day two you can take on the cliffs of Point Pure on a climb called the Widow-maker. There are climbs here for everyone from beginners up.
Point Pure is also one of the few places in Australia where you can rock climb and rap jump in the same spot. Rap jumping is like low-level skydiving and participants can reach speeds of up to eighty kilometres per hour.
Beware though, Point Pure is part of the Mistake Ranges and a mistake is the one thing that you don't want to make out here.
The facts
The two day Mary River Adventure with overnight bush camp including all meals and activities costs $255 per adult and $155 per child (under 14).
