Hamilton Island, QUEENSLAND
Airing Date: Aug 4th, 2003
Hamilton is the largest inhabited island in the Whitsundays and a great destination for a tropical escape not far from home. Here you can do as much or as little as you like - sunbake on a beautiful beach, go swimming in the clear blue sea or try one of the resort's daily activities.
The island has a wide variety of accommodation available to suit all budgets. There are self-contained apartments and villas, luxury beach front accommodation, bungalows and the spacious and affordable Palm Terrace Hotel set amongst the tropical gardens. But Hamilton Island is not just about spending time indoors.
The island offers guests over 40 activities on a daily basis. These activities include Great Barrier Reef cruises, waterskiing, windsurfing, catamaran and yacht sailing, tennis, game fishing, nature walks, whale watching (mid July to September), scenic flights and safari tours. Some activities are complimentary and others incur a charge, like the go karts. These will set you back $20, but that entitles you to ten minutes of being an absolute rev-head hooning around the track.
Hamilton Island is also considered a food lover's paradise. With over 10 restaurants and takeaway outlets to choose from, there is always something new and exciting to tempt your tastebuds. There's even a Friday night seafood buffet and for $50 you can eat as much fresh seafood as you can manage.
