Ocean Walker, QUEENSLAND

The Great Barrier Reef is undisputed as one of the world's most important natural assets. It is the largest natural feature on earth stretching more than 2,300km along the northeast coast of Australia from the northern tip of Queensland and the Papua New Guinea coastline to just north of Fraser Island off the coast of QLD.

Quicksilver employs a team of qualified Marine Biologists to help you unravel the mystery of this amazing living structure while preserving the reef for future generations. It is a 2 hour trip by boat to the outer reef but worth it once you arrive. If you would like to stay completely dry then you can explore the stunning reef from the comfort of a Quicksilver sub.

The semi submersibles cruise slowly through the colourful coral gardens giving passengers, seated just one metre underwater, the opportunity to experience a snorkeller's - eye view of the marine life without getting wet. The semi-sub experience takes approximately 25 minutes and includes an informed commentary on the marine life observed during the journey and an overview of the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef. Semi-subs depart every fifteen minutes from the rear of the platform.

Quicksilver's latest way to explore the reef is the Ocean Walker. It is ideal for non-divers, non-swimmers or for those who don't want to get their hair wet! It's also just a great and different way to explore the reef. You will be given a helmet to wear underwater. Above water the helmet is very heavy but it's virtually weightless when you submerge yourself. You are also provided with a lead weight belt and special shoes plus wetsuits are also available. The Ocean Walker descends four and a half metres down under the water and then about four metres to the end of a platform from where all sorts of underwater life can be observed. Six people at a time can take part in the Ocean Walker and the experience lasts twenty five minutes.
