Tiger Cubs at Dreamworld, QUEENSLAND

Airing Date: May 12th, 2007

Dreamworld welcomed two rare Sumatran Tiger cubs on March 31st 2007.

The two female cubs are quickly growing, gaining 40- 60grams in weight a day and are part of a global breeding programme to save the rare species. There are only 400 left in the wild and they are considered one of the most critically endangered species on Earth.

Dreamworld guests were first able to view the cubs through closed circuit television monitors positioned at Tiger Island. At two weeks of age they were moved into their purpose-built nursery to build up their immune systems.

Visitors can catch the cubs bouncing around Dreamworld on their daily walks and playing and wrestling inside the Cub Display Area to the right of Tiger Island.

From May 18 (2007) guests will have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get even closer to the cubs, at the daily Cub Experience, offered only for a very limited time.

Each day, 20 guests can play with, pat and have their photos taken with the rare Sumatran cubs in their special playground behind Tiger Island. This rare chance will not be included in the general admission price.

The Cub Experience can only be booked on arrival at Dreamworld and it is a first in best dressed policy, so only those who get in early will have the opportunity to see the cubs.

Guests will also have some one-on-one time with handlers to ask questions and learn more about the tigers, the importance of conservation, and make a valuable contribution to their survival in the wild, with money raised going back to Dreamworld's Tiger Fund.

From around 6 weeks of age, the cubs will also be introduced to Tiger Island's seven majestic Bengal tigers. As the Bengals begin to bond with the cubs, they will gradually spend more time together before eventually moving onto Tiger Island.
