The Great Bunya Drive, Toowoomba, QUEENSLAND
Airing Date: Sep 25th, 2006
The Great Bunya Drive is a beautiful 390km drive through the scenic country landscapes of the Darling Downs and South Burnett. West of Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast, the drive incorporates the magnificent Bunya Mountains National Park, freshwater dams, pastoral homesteads and rural towns dotted throughout the Darling Downs and South Burnett. It is an isolated section of The Great Dividing Range, and has a rich Aboriginal history.
The Bunya Mountains horse and cart tour has been operating for 18 years. There are a variety of tours to choose from but the 2 hour rainforest tour is one of the most popular. The tour takes visitors to a high point in the Bunya's for beautiful vistas of South Burnett and then down into the rainforest where Bunya nuts from the ancient pines are roasted and sampled. The cart is pulled by two placid Clydesdale horses and if needed, a cute pony cart can take extra kids.
Located in the heart of the Darling Downs, Jondaryan Woolshed is one of the largest surviving woolsheds in Australia. Jondaryan is a working sheep farm and also offers tours of modern farming, including grain growing, cotton, dairying, cattle, alpacas, pigs, goats and others.
Billy Tea and Damper is served in an open-air shelter where the damper is cooked over the coals of an open fire.
