The Chapel Hill Winery Gourmet Retreat was opened in August 2004. It is Australia's first winery offering 'in-the-vineyard accommodation' with epicurean training facilities.
The elegant two-storey chalet-style Chapel Hill Winery Guest House is set amongst the vineyards, 150 metres from the winery and cellar door, and can cater for up to eight guests.
Visitors will enjoy breath-taking views of the Onkaparinga River National Park, the Gulf of St Vincent and surrounding vineyards from both indoor and outdoor living areas.
The air-conditioned Guest House contains a fully equipped kitchen (including dishwasher and microwave), outdoor BBQ area, spacious living/entertaining areas with open fireplace, television, DVD/VCR and CD Player, two queen sized bedrooms with ensuites, and two twin bedrooms with spacious shared bathroom.
The designer kitchen provides for up to fifty guests to experience cooking demonstrations and for up to sixteen participants to cook under the guidance of Chef Peter Hogg. State of the art conference facilities in the winery's boardroom complete the package.
The cooking class usually runs for three hours. The class is broken up into three groups, one group for each course.
The members of the class do not have to be there for the full duration, so once the prep is complete, the guests can sample some of the wine on the terrace or the bar and the chef will finish off and serve. What is cooked is eaten by the guests that night.
