Nuttbush Retreat, SOUTH AUSTRALIA
Airing Date: Feb 12th, 2002
Nuttbush Retreat, a massive property running 25,000 sheep, is 30 minutes west of Port Augusta in South Australia. It's also a great place to learn the 'ins' and 'outs' of sheep mustering.
Mucking in and helping with the chores is all part of the fun at Nuttbush. At mustering time you even get to choose a horse that suits your ability. Here you can experience everything from droving and shearing, to cleaning the troughs and checking the pumps, and if you're not too sure of yourself in the saddle you can always hitch a ride in the four-wheel drive on a half-day guided tour of the property.
If you'd prefer to dodge the work then you can take in the sights on one of the other tours they have on offer - from a walk in the Flinders Ranges to a history and wildlife tour. With more than 150 bird species recorded in the area, it's also a perfect place for the avid bird watcher.
And if you just want to relax around the retreat there's heaps to do. Shoot some pool, take a dip or play some tennis. There's also a station museum that's included in the price of the stay.
