Yankalilla, SOUTH AUSTRALIA

Just an hour from Adelaide, Yankalilla is a small town full of surprises. 'It Ain't Firewood' is a shop owned by local artist Jeff Prior, who used to make sets for films including Babe and Rabbit Proof Fence. These days, you are more likely to see him transform trees into unique carvings, mainly fish related pieces. Jeff goes for walks looking for ideal pieces of wood, like Redgum, to create his masterpieces. His carvings range from $40 to a couple of hundred dollars, depending on their size.

Another attraction is Our Lady of Yankalilla, a 140 year old chapel. Around 10 years ago, a group of parishioners were sitting in the front row during a Sunday morning service. At the same time, they all claim to have seen a vision of the Virgin Mary come before them. Soon, the Lady of Yankalilla started attracting pilgrims from all over the world to witness this miracle.

For accommodation with a twist, Paul Elliott and his partner have built the Corinium Roman Villa to bring a touch of Italy to Oz. They were inspired after a holiday in Italy where they admired the villas in Pompeii and decided to bring the idea back with them. Their accommodation features six unique rooms, complete with a spa for those romantic nights in.

The facts A night at the Corinium Roman Villa Bed and Breakfast starts from $160 per couple per night, including breakfast.
