Troubridge Lighthouse, SOUTH AUSTRALIA
Airing Date: Jun 4th, 2002
To get to Troubridge Island, first make your way to Edithburgh about a two and a half hour drive from Adelaide. Then it's a 15-minute boat ride to Troubridge Island where you will experience a weekend like no other.
Troubridge Island is quite small - a stroll around the entire island will only take about an hour.
This place is completely deserted so don't expect to bump into any locals that talk back. When you opt for a weekend here you virtually have the own island to yourself - it's just you, those you bought with you and the local wildlife.
In keeping with the notion that Troubridge is uninhabited, a constructive morning activity is to cast a line and try to catch some tucker. Bucket loads of Tommy Ruffs and Salmon Trout roam the waters so odds are you'll have a tasty feed come night fall.
Accommodation on Troubridge Island is in the old lighthouse keeper's cottage. With bedding for up to 12 people it is up to the guests to battle it out as who gets the best room.
There aren't too many weekenders with a 140-year-old lighthouse parked out front.
