Trowunna Wildlife Park, TASMANIA
Airing Date: Nov 8th, 2004
Trowunna Wildlife Park is a 40 minute drive from Sheffield in northern Tasmania. Tasmanian Devils breed once a year at Trowunna, and during your visit you may be fortunate enough to play with some babies that were born in the last year.
Cuddling isn't just restricted to Tassie Devils - visitors can get up close and personal with the hungry, the sleepy and the just plain cute. A real treat at Trowunna is that visitors are welcome to go in and nurture the animals, which contrasts with most wildlife parks where you have to keep your distance.
In nearby Sheffield, you'll find many other family friendly attractions. Take a walk around the local streets and check out the 38 painted murals created by local artists that are on display.
A further 15 minutes down the road is a crazy place where the whole family can literally lose themselves for hours in the heart of Tasmazia! There are seven unique mazes to choose from, but The Yellow Brick Road Maze is a good one for the munchkins to tackle while tired parents take a breather.
A combination of all the activities on offer will definitely build up a big appetite, and Tasmazia's Pancake Parlour has stacks of selections. Your biggest decision may be how to choose between sweet and savoury!
Another delicious landmark is Murray's Scottish Scone Shop, where the pumpkin scones are made using Lady Flo Bjelke Petersen's recipe. The whiskey-laced pumpkins scones are to die for.
