Bay Of Fires, TASMANIA
Airing Date: Jan 1st, 2002
The treks are conducted in Tasmania, in Mount William National Park - a two-hour drive from Launceston. Being one of Australia's most dramatic stretches of coast, it's the perfect spot to simply walk away the worries of city life.
The four-day guided hiking tour is run by local guides with years of experience, so you're in very safe hands. Although your fitness levels don't need to be perfect, you will need to be able to cover nine kilometres on day one and fourteen the next.
The first night of the trek is spent at a beach camp, and on the second evening you'll end up at the Bay of Fires Lodge, in the heart of Mount William National Park. This is home for the rest of the trip - that means two more nights of absolute comfort and excellent cuisine. Twenty square kilometres of wilderness surround the lodge. In fact, it's so isolated that most of the building materials had to be flown in by helicopter!
What you do at the Lodge on days three and four is totally up to you - additional guided walks are offered, you can relax, or take a kayaking trip on the picturesque Anson's river - it's all included in the package.
