Airing Date: Jun 4th, 2002
Millhouse on the Bridge in Richmond, Tasmania a beautifully restored guesthouse is everything a romantic country B&B should be and it's just a 20 minute drive from Hobart.
Originally built as a flour mill nearly 150 years ago, Millhouse on the Bridge has four unique guest rooms that combine to give it a mix of history and hospitality, comfort and character. And with fresh flowers in the rooms, complimentary port and sherry and a roaring open fire, Millhouse really is a home away from home.
Set on the Coal River you can't help but feel the romance of a bygone era.
The Coal River flows under the Richmond Bridge, Australia's oldest bridge.
Built in 1823, the convict built bridge, still in everyday use is one of the most photographed attractions in Richmond.
Local legend has it that the bridge is haunted by 'George', a cruel man who was murdered by disgruntled convicts many years ago. It is said that he and his ghostly dog still walk the bridge at night.
After soaking up the history and memories of Richmond don't leave before you make some of your own. Head down the road to Old Time Portraits where you can dress up and become anything you want from a past era - a jillaroo, a gentleman, a flapper or fashionable lady of the times.
