Arcadian Downs has been Dr Harry Cooper's home since October 1992. Dr. Harry has said that one of his main aims in life is to teach children a love, understanding and respect for animals - knowing they'll carry that through to adult life and hopefully translate that into a love and understanding for their fellow man.
With this philosophy, Dr Harry has opened up his farm for everyone to enjoy the beauty of his animals and some fine food while you're there! Dr Harry provides a hands-on experience for all visitors. He's developed a "Touch and Feel" shed which is a bit like an animal nursery.
Animals here include rabbits, mice, ducklings, chooks and piglets. The Tour takes visitors all around the farm. Harry gives a general outline on the history of the area and talks about the places used to film his show, Harry's Practice.
The majority of the farm has wheel chair access. For those unable to cope with steep slopes there is a viewing platform which is undercover and glass fronted with audio commentary.
At the end of the tour is "The Clucky Chook Caf". They serve tea, freshly made coffee, homemade cakes and biscuits, scones with jam and cream through to light meals like quiche, homemade pies, focaccias and Tasmanian tasting plates. Children's dishes are also available.
