Airing Date: Nov 20th, 2006
Ballarat is the largest inland city in Victoria and the third largest inland city in Australia. It is approximately 105 kilometres north-west of Melbourne, with an urban population of 90,200 people.
Nieder Weisel is a distinguished Victorian home which offers inner city Bed & Breakfast and self contained accommodation, function facilities, High Teas and Historical Tours set in over an acre of scented gardens.
Restoration began in 2001 to return the property to her former glory. The famous High Tea consists of tea drinking, savouries and a historical tour. Each room in the house is named after an individual, family or organization who have had significant input into the history of our home, the house really tells it's own story as you are guided through by the current owners.
This historical tour is also offered complimentary to any of our accommodation guests and was put together with the help of local historians, descendants of the home and the National Trust.
The property's Soiree Series includes an array of local and international musical performers, including renowned pianist David Helfgott and Opera Singer David Hobson.
Explore some of the 6 kilometres of foreshore that surrounds the city's centrepiece - Lake Wendouree. Stroll past rows of boathouses and the nests of waterbirds.
It is a popular place for Ballarat residents and any day of the year you will see locals walking, cycling and running the well-maintained track around the Lake including the Steve Moneghetti track - named after the running great who grew up here.
