Cruzin the 1950s/60s, VICTORIA
Airing Date: Sep 8th, 2003
Homesick for the good old 50s and 60s where everything looked like Pleasantville? Now you can relive that special era. Take a trip down memory lane and head to one of Australia's quirkiest B&Bs. It's certainly a departure from the standard Georgian and colonial B&B - this one rocks with 1950s/60s decor and style.
Owners Ken and Maureen, baby boomers of the 50s, established their own private museum in their large back shed, and now they've opened a B&B to add to the wacky complex.
Stepping inside the complex is almost like stepping back in time. For one weekend, you can convince yourself you've returned to the days when things were still rockin' and pleasant.
The B&B is called Tallowwood Cottage, and features a delightful display of decor from the baby boomer era along with today's modern conveniences.
The kitchen may be laminex, but the luxurious queen-sized bed, the split system air conditioning and DVD player suggests that not everything about this charming B&B is evocative of the olden days. Guests can step back in time without forgetting about the creature comforts.
The shed also houses an old corner shop, a garage with a classic car, and a private dance floor where rock 'n' rollers can dancce to all the golden oldies. Baby boomers will love this B&B, packed with memorabilia from the boomer era.
