Best Friend Holiday Retreat, VICTORIA

Best Friend Holiday Retreat is Australia's premier dog-friendly tourist park, designed specifically with man's best friend in mind.

Located in South Gippsland near the stunning Tarra-Bulga National Park, Best Friend Holiday Retreat opened in July 2003, offering 10 acres of property in a beautiful valley.

When you and your dog stroll through the park you'll feel like you've entered some sort of doggy paradise. There are five off-leash areas, or for the more acrobatically inclined, the dog agile equipment.

There are also doggy drinking stations and a hydro dog spa available, and all the streets are named after dogs, like Beagle Boulevard and Dalmatian Drive. Caravan and campsite accommodation are available, as well as a choice of a one or two bedroom cabin. Each cabin features a deck with a BBQ overlooking the garden area and a fence all the way around the cabin for your dog's safety and protection.

The furnishings are modest but dog-friendly, including a full gas stove, refrigerator, microwave, TV and video. Guests can borrow a movie from the park's own video library, with more than 700 titles to choose from.

The cabins are bursting with doggy decorations, from dog ornaments, mugs with dog prints, dog salt and pepper shakers, and bedroom lights with dog footprints to doggy alarm clocks and even dog monopoly.

The retreat is close to several attractions, so if you want to leave your best mate at the retreat for the day, check into one of the five luxury kennels. Each kennel has an armchair, carpet, curtains, a heater, paintings, a grassed area, and even a colour TV, to make sure your dog feels right at home.

The facts:

Cabins at the Best Friend Holiday Retreat start at $95 per double per night.

Powered camping and caravan sites start at $25 a night.

The Best Friend Holiday Retreat was voted most dog-friendly accommodation in Australia by the Life. Be in it Holidaying With Dogs.
