Otways, VICTORIA
Airing Date: Mar 13th, 2006
Westwards from Port Phillip Bay the Victorian coast swings sharply southwards. The coastline is very narrow and backed by the Otway Ranges. The scenic Great Ocean Road winds it way south along this coast linking the many small towns and tourist resorts.
The Fly is a 600 metre long 25 metre high elevated tree top walk. The tree top walk ascends at a gentle grade through a magnificent stand of cool temperate rainforest featuring Myrtle Beech, Blackwood and Mountain Ash.
For the thrill seeker a 45 metre high lookout is ascended via a spiral stairway through the under storey to emerge amongst the crowns of the giants of the forest. The Springboard cantilever bounces gently high over picturesque Young's Creek.
The Old Beechy Rail Trail follows one of the state's former narrow-gauge railways through an area of scenic forest, rich farmland and rolling hills with the coast not too far away. There is excellent bird life along the trail and rainforest pockets have magnificent eucalypts and blackwoods shading the lush under storey.
The Otway Estate Cottages are nestled in bushland on the Otway Estate Winery, a 28 acre property in the beautiful Otway Ranges Cottages offer luxury adult accommodation in peaceful and tranquil environment.
