Wycheproof is situated on the edge of the Mallee, 292 km north-west of Melbourne on the Calder Highway. The name 'Wycheproof' comes from the Aboriginal place-name 'witchi-poorp', said to mean 'grass on a hill'.

A day at a big country race meet can be as good as the city events - and you also have a much better chance of getting closer to all the action! The Wycheproof Cup is run on the Saturday before the 'race that stops the nation' - the Melbourne Cup!

The 1550m Wycheproof racetrack is a tight circuit of 4 straights and 4 turns and there is a limit of 10 starters in all races. The Mt Wycheproof Cup is an open event, 1800m in length and it is the last race of the day.

Activities on the day include country style lunches provided by the Wycheproof Hospital Ladies Auxiliary and a BBQ by the local Football Club. You can also keep the kids entertained all day. There are free children's activities including jumping castle, merry-go-round and clowns.
