Port Phillip Penthouse and Sandstone Cottages, VICTORIA
Airing Date: Sep 4th, 2006
Port Phillip Penthouse and Sandstone Cottages is a unique 4 star accommodation in the Dandenong Ranges village of Olinda. Settled in 1890, Olinda is the highest of the Dandenong's villages.
Art galleries, antiques markets and handicraft shops are the main tourist attractions of this picturesque town. Ross and his wife Ophelia have lived on the 1.5 acre property since 1992 and started running it as a business in October 1995.
The Camelot Towers two storey cottage features a 17th century La Mansarde bell caste slate roofed tower with a crucible helmet on top. The first building of this kind was built in France in 1704.
It is a single bedroom building and above the bed there is a Thai silk balloon ceiling with perfect solid circumference panelling.
The highlight of the Sandstone Cottage is the sculptured timber French bed worth approximately $36,000. The bed is thought to be the most expensive bed in Australia and the cottage has its own private full-length oval King and Queen size spa with views.
There is a second bedroom with a normal sized bed.
Each of the fully serviced accommodation options has a well-stocked kitchen. Ophelia provides smoked salmon, eggs, bacon, milk, cheeses and ham for guests that feel like cooking for themselves.
For those who like to eat out there are 8 restaurants within a 6 minute walk. If you don't feel like walking OR cooking, Ross and Ophelia can arrange to have dinner delivered from your choice of any one of the local restaurants, or organise a chauffeured dinner or luncheon excursion.
The property's walking tracks and boundary touches the Doongalla state forest and the Dandenong Ranges. Port Phillip Penthouse and Sandstone Cottages are 45 minutes drive from Melbourne and are also easily accessed via public transport.
Motorcars are well accommodated with remote controlled garages or enclosed carports for guests.
