The Kimberley, WESTERN AUSTRALIA
Airing Date: Jan 1st, 2002
Formed by the erosion of rivers and creeks over the last 20 million years, the Bungle Bungles are an awesome sight when viewed from the air, especially in their remote and beautiful surroundings.
To get to the Bungle Bungles, first head to Kununurra, a two-hour flight from Broome, or one-hour flight from Darwin. From there, take the two-hour flight with Alligator Airways straight over the Bungle Bungle Range for a magnificent bird's-eye view.
The flight can also take you on to the Kimberley's other national icon, Lake Argyle. This huge lake was formed by the Ord River Dam system and holds nine times more water than Sydney Harbour. If you prefer to see the lake at ground level, Lake Argyle Cruises offers a sunset cruise, where you will have the opportunity to spot local wildlife, such as the freshwater crocodiles and short-eared rock wallabies.
The best time to visit is in the dry season, between April and October. That way you can be sure the roads will all be open.
