Cable Beach Club, WESTERN AUSTRALIA
Airing Date: Jun 14th, 2004
The Cable Beach Resort is situated on the edge of The Kimberley, close to beautiful Broome. This award-winning resort looks out onto the crystal clear Indian Ocean across pure white sands. It's ideal for a romantic escape or family holiday, with 26 acres of enchanting gardens to stroll through, beautiful artefacts to admire, and even native animals.
The architecture and landscape of the Cable Beach Club is a fusion of east and west, but there's something a little extra for guests. Aside from an exclusive and sophisticated retreat, many guests visit the resort for its display of artworks and paintings from some of Australia's best artists.
The whole resort was created by an Englishman, Lord Alistair McAlpine, who fell in love with Broome and also had a passion for art. He had his particular favourites, so you'll see a lot of bird paintings as well as works by the artists Elizabeth Durack, Welsh painter Humphrey Price Jones and Sydney Nolan. The resort is currently run by Sue Thom, who will happily show you around and talk you through the paintings.
Strolling through the gardens you'll also come across a spectacular Buddha. It's made from quartz and sits 5.5 metres off the ground. There is also a pair of hand-carved lions from China, which are believed to protect the property from misfortune.
The Cable Beach Club has recently undergone a $10 million refurbishment, so it's now better then ever.
You can select your accommodation from a luxurious private villa or a studio room. Each studio is contemporary but with an exotic appeal. The rooms are located near the Sunset Bar and Ocean Pool, with views of the stunning sunsets over the Indian Ocean.
They've introduced a new Asian Affair restaurant, and there are also many other restaurants where you can enjoy fine dining, like the Club Restaurant. You can enjoy pre-dinner cocktails at the Sunset Bar and Caf, and a superb selection of wines is available throughout the resort including the Boardwalk Caf, Kimberley BBQ and even by the poolside.
For the ultimate pampering session, visit the day spa within the Cable Beach Resort. It's a popular and tranquil escape, with many treatments ranging from massages, facials, and manicures, as well as the plunge room.
