Gilgara Homestead is 6km from the Margaret River township and is a magnificent replica of an 1870 Australian station homestead. This charming bed and breakfast is situated on 23 landscaped acres, surrounded by gardens overflowing with roses and scented perennials.
The homestead provides a relaxed atmosphere for a maximum of 14 guests in luxurious comfort. There are beautifully appointed drawing and dining rooms and the bedrooms are romantically furnished and offer the ultimate in comfort and relaxation. All rooms have private facilities. The winter months bring a special mood to Gilgara as the enormous open fire burns continuously in the drawing room. Pets are not allowed.
An excellent gourmet Mediterranean breakfast is served in the dining room, accompanied by splendid views across the property. At the same time, watch the blue wrens and an array of other birds served their breakfast outside the dining room window. An example menu served to a guest at Gilgara Homestead includes an assortment of Margaret River cheeses, cereals, muesli, yoghurt, smoked salmon, fresh fruits of the season and an assortment of breads freshly baked daily.
Guests at Gilgara may simply enjoy walking on the property, sitting in front of a huge open fire or relaxing on the verandah taking in the view. From the homestead you can walk through the state forest to the ocean, then stroll and stop to view Ellensbrook Homestead, once the home of Ellen and Alfred Bussell, the first settlers in Margaret River.The region around Gilgara has much to offer, with craft shops, galleries and restaurants. Long stretches of secluded beaches, jewelled caves, forest walks and the world- renowned wineries of Margaret River are all nearby.
