The Bahamas is made up of around 700 islands situated in 50,000 square miles of tropical sea in the Caribbean. The Atlantis Resort is located on Paradise Island.
For centuries, Atlantis has been one of the western world's favourite legends, a tantalizing blend of fantasy and mystery.
Stories tell of a rich and glorious empire that was lost to the sea. Some hope its ruins still lie somewhere under the ocean, waiting to be discovered. This concept is what the Atlantis Resort is based on.
The Atlantis Resort opened in 1994 and has recently undergone an upgrade. In total there are 2355 rooms. Atlantis is said to have the world's biggest outdoor aquarium with over 100 species of fish.
Paradise Island is also the jump off point for two of the more exciting activities on offer - the Dolphin Encounter and Powerboat Adventures. The Dolphin Encounter gives you the opportunity to swim and play with dolphins.
The resort has also opened a 25,000 sq ft Mandara spa offering a range of exotic spa treatments based on Asian and European influences.
The Atlantis fitness centre has also been expanded with a new cardio-theatre and free weights. With ten all-weather tennis courts, a four-lane lap pool, basketball and volleyball courts, an 18-hole par three putting course, treadmills, elliptical equipment and muscle- toning equipment, this is the place to stay in shape. For some evening entertainment Atlantis has 20 restaurants and 15 bars/lounges.
There are things for the kids to do as well. There are seven waterslides at Atlantis including the most popular, The Leap of Faith, a Discovery Kids Camp and lots of lagoons and waterfalls.
