The Freedom of the Seas, UNITED KINGDOM
Airing Date: May 22nd, 2006
Built in Finland, The Royal Caribbean Freedom of the Seas is probably the world's most anticipated cruise ship since the Cunard Queen Mary 2.
In fact The Freedom of the Seas will replace the Queen Mary 2 as the largest cruise ship in the world, weighing a staggering 160,000 tons, compared to the QM2's 150,000 tons. (The QM2 will keep the longest cruise ship title since she is about 20 feet longer than the Freedom of the Seas.) Freedom of the Seas is said to be the most head-turning, most innovative and most forward-looking ship in the cruise industry. Its name was chosen deliberately to convey the enormity of features and amenities offered on this extraordinary ship.
Given its' massive size, plethora of activities, and state-of-the-art technology, it's a testament to the direction ship building will take in the future. So what sets it apart? Well, there's a rock-climbing wall, Royal Promenade and ice-skating rink to start. Then there's the top-deck aqua environment, featuring three massive pool areas, including an interactive water park, the most dramatic whirlpools afloat and a dedicated sports pool.
Oh and we can't forget the adults-only oasis with its jungle-themed Solarium, two large hot tubs canti-levered out 12 feet from the sides of the ship and suspended 112 feet above the ocean offering breathtaking, panoramic views. Every room is designed to be a comfortable, relaxing place to rest after all those adventures and offers a television, telephone, private bath, shower, vanity and even a hair-dryer. Everything from a Presidential Suite sleeping 14 people, Family Suites to Family Staterooms are on offer.
